The winds- and the gifts of change

This has truly been a year of change.
Most years are filled with ups and downs and adventure but this one has been about the gifts change can bring. Sometimes we are forced to change, sometimes we seek it out and other times it comes in with the wind, and gifts come into your life. This year has brought my beautiful grandaughter Sophia and the joy she has brought is all encompassing.
My relationship with DEMDACO is another gift - a change that I wished for and it came true! Now 2014 looks like it will also be filled with a theme of change and reinvention. I am open and ready to create positive changes in my own life also be a positive force for possibility and change.

I'm on Another Big Adventure- this one with DEMDACO!

I have always been up for change and big adventure- and I am experiencing one of those right now! I am here at the headquarters for DEMDACO this week for their National Sales Meeting and yesterday gave a speech to 140 people in their organization. It went very well- everyone was inspired by my story which is all I could hope for. Everyone from the president to my product development team have been amazing and are treating me very well- how fun this is! I am learning so much about how successful licensing products can be for an artists. My wishes, which of course I placed in my own Wishnest- are coming true.
Be sure to wish well and wish often!!

A visit to San Francisco's Art Museums

It takes 1.5 or 2 hours to get there from Healdsburg but every time I go to San Francisco I feel overwhelmed with gratitude to live near such a fabulous city. Yesterday I visited 2 major art exhibits at equally impressive venues- the Hockney exhibit at The De Young in Golden Gate Park and Anders Zorn at The Palace of the Legion of Honor. There is no more beautiful site than on a sunny day at the latter which is perched on a hill overlooking the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge. I went with my good friend Lorraine Vail which is always a day filled with art and magic. Anders Zorn was the wonderful surprise of the day- even though The Hockney exhibit was a treat- the ipad paintings ARE groundbreaking. This painting at the Zorn exhibit brought tears to my eyes- it was truly that powerful. See it if you can- its there till Feb 2.

Wine country living

There is so much to love about living here in one of the most beautiful places in earth. I have traveled quite a bit and it really is at the top if the list. Sonoma county in the fall is quite a feast of color and the weather is Spectacular too. So I guess thats why I am inspired to create artwork about wine- and where there's wine there must be chocolate!

Trusting

Had so much fun this weekend creating artwork on my iPad. It's a whole new world. I can now
do so many amazing things to bring my ideas and visions into reality. I have always taken photos wherever I go of anything I see that's unusual etc so I have a treasure chest of images as well as loving to paint.. It's all coming together.

Abstract for Happiness

Painted this on my iPad and titled it Abstract for Happiness. So much fun. No paint. Wow -its a whole new world! A painting a day- that's my goal. Does not matter how small or large or what medium or subject- creating is what it's about. The practice is the goal- practicing for what comes through while practicing. Hmmm.

Mojo as a puppy

He was my little bear. He was a Shiba inu We were best buds and he was almost always by my side. When I came home he would talk to me in his Shiba language- if you have never heard a shiba inu talk- check it out in you tube- hilarious!

Missing our dog Mojo

Mojo was our wonderful beloved dog -
We lost him to a sudden illness 2 days ago and are really very very sad not to have him here with us. Here's a card
I made for him. He is very happy with our two cats and a bird that helped him cross peacefully to the other side.

Where to begin the story...

I'm taking a memoir writing class so I dug out a buried box of my journals dating way way back to 1976. I have been  journaling most of my life. Perusing through them to see if anything seems like a good story to start with because I need to write something to share in class tomorrow. I am thinking of sharing pieces of older journal entries juxtaposed with what's happening now- looking for the seeds I planted way back then that led me here. Will be a good history lesson and walk down memory lane. I have always wanted my life to be exciting and meaningful. This quote by Helen Keller has pretty much been my mantra. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all" So off I go in search of the beginning of the story. My Cat Casey is ready to jump in too!

Muse-ology

Been thinking about my creative process ... here is a brief overview how it typically goes..
well not always!

1. Feed my brain and my soul with beauty, light, music, great people, inspiring books, new places
2. Observe nature, birds of course, my cats, light and shadow on trees etc..
3. Take photos of strange and beautiful things that catch my attention
4. Journal about what's stirring around in my brain
5. Draw some really basic design ideas and show them to my husband who usually just says - cool
6. Sculpt something in clay, realize its not at all what I was thinking and start over..

Love a good challenge!

One more day to finish this still life- the blue bottle is a tough one, used every one of these brushes today!
Excited about how it's coming along.

Learning to paint in the style of the masters

Taking painting classes with Linda Schroeter- really loving this process - 3 different layers of color and tons of patience- here's my first finished piece

Back in the Studio To Sculpt!

Sculpture is the basis of The Wishnest Line and its what I love to do most when it comes to creating. I took a weekend workshop where a live model was provided (fabulous by the way!). The 3 other women in the workshop were way more experienced with figurative sculpture than I and were very inspiring and fun to be around. Learned so much and reconnected with the joy I get from getting my hands into some clay and creating!

Summer Blessings

The weather is amazing in Northern Cal this summer and so many other good things are happening too.
Our business is growing in a great way- I will be able to do lots more designing and creating which I am thrilled about! We have added an outlet to our website where we are selling some discontinued items such as these Luminaries- they are great for outdoor summer entertaining. My new grandaughter has the elephant one in her room as a nightlight!
